CASE STUDY 9. GAS WORKS REMEDIATION. MORTLAKE, NSW

The remediation of this land is completed in 2002. The clean-up project transforms a contaminated site into land suitable for urban development. Breakfast Point is now a desirable urban location, located on the shores of the Parramatta River, about 25 km west of the Sydney CBD. The name of this new suburb reflects its pre-industrial European history. On 5th February 1888, Captain John Hunter stopped to have breakfast on his first journey up the Parramatta River and ten days later Governor Phillip did the same.
